Barcelona, the perfect city to rent an electric car or bike

What is an electric car, and where can you test them???

An electric car is an automobile that is propelled by one electric motor or more, using electrical energy stored in batteries or another energy storage device. Electric motors give electric cars instant torque, creating strong and smooth acceleration.

Electric cars were popular in the late 19th century and early 20th century, until advances in internal combustion engine technology and mass production of cheaper gasoline vehicles led to a decline in the use of electric drive vehicles. The energy crises of the 1970s and ’80s brought a short-lived interest in electric cars, though those cars did not reach mass marketing as today’s electric cars experience it. Since the mid-2000s, the production of electric cars is experiencing a renaissance due to advances in battery and power management technologies and concerns about increasingly volatile oil prices and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Barcelona, World Capital of Electric Vehicles in 2013

Barcelona will host the 27th International Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exposition (EVS) on November 17¿ 20, 2013. During four days, academic, government and industry leaders will gather in the Spanish city to explore, share and promote the development of electrical vehicles and the technologies to transform transportation as we know it. The city has received the testimony of Los Angeles (USA), home of EVS26.

The event is mainly addressed to professionals and will showcase the latest technologies and products in the Electric Vehicle marketplace but it will also feature an exhibition area and the ‘Ride, Drive and Charge’ track, both open to the public.

EVS27 will take place in Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via Venue at the same dates as Smart City Expo & World Congress 2013, the summit on Smart cities which in 2013 will be focused specifically on sustainable mobility, and will make Barcelona the world’s capital city of clean development and transportation for four days.

EVS27 will be jointly organized by the World Electric Vehicle Association (WEVA), through the European Association of Electric Vehicle (Avere) and the Spanish Association for the Promotion of Electric and Clean Vehicles (Avele), and Fira de Barcelona. Avere and Avele will be responsible of the Conference programme while Fira de Barcelona will be in charge of the organization and logistics of both the Conference and the Exhibition.

About the EVS
The EVS series, organized by the Weva, is recognized as the global electric transportation industry’s premier and largest forum, showcasing all forms of technologies in the market place and on the drawing boards — from low speed battery electric vehicles to fuel cell electric buses. The event attracts academic, government and industry leaders from around the world who are interested in exploring and understanding the technical, policy and market challenges to a paradigm shift toward use of electric transportation technologies.
